OTB
On January 3rd, 2011, Arlington personnel responded to OTB in the headquarters area for a person feeling dizzy. During the initial assessment and interview, the patient suddenly became unresponsive and lapsed into cardiac arrest. The team quickly began CPR and defibrillated the patient. In the following moments during the course of treatment, the patient’s cardiac rhythm changed several times necessitating evolving treatment plans. Within five minutes of the decline into cardiac arrest the team resuscitated the patient, who regained stable vital signs, was conscious, alert and able to talk with personnel. The patient was transported to Vassar Brothers Medical Center, where he fully recovered.
The Arlington Fire District Board of Fire Commissioners and Chiefs Staff will present lifesaving awards to FF/Paramedic Justin Carlon, FF/Paramedic Christopher Mills, FF/Paramedic James Palmatier, and FF/EMT Christopher Saya.

Haight Avenue

On arrival, the Duty-Captain found a 3-story wood frame structure showing heavy fire and several people trapped on the roof of an attached single-story structure. Additionally, several bystanders reported an occupant trapped on the second-story. At the direction of the Duty-Captain and with the assistance of the Duty-Lieutenant, personnel effected the rescue of the occupant on the second-story and the people trapped on the roof of the attached single-story structure, while creating a secondary means of safe egress and protecting the occupants and personnel from the hazards of the fire.

On scene personnel immediately entered the structure and effected an evacuation of the firefighter, and on egress delivered him to on-scene emergency medical services personnel for treatment.

Price Chopper
On January 30th, 2014, the American Heart Association chain of survival (Immediate Recognition and Activation – Early CPR – Rapid Defibrillation – Effective Advanced Life Support – Integrated Post Cardiac Care) saved the life of a female in her 80s shopping at the South Road Price Chopper. She was not feeling well and after shopping, a front-end supervisor assisted her to her car to help with her groceries. Suddenly, she collapsed and the supervisor called by radio to her colleagues for emergency assistance. The Price Chopper team immediately called ‘911’ retrieved their AED and responded to the parking lot. With the assistance of an off-duty City of Poughkeepsie firefighter, the team began CPR and delivered a defibrillation. Within four minutes Arlington personnel arrived and began Advanced Life Support. Twenty minutes later the patient was delivered to Vassar Brothers Medical Center alive, where she remained for several days under observation before being discharged.
The Arlington Fire District Board of Fire Commissioners and Chiefs Staff will present lifesaving awards to FF/Paramedic Seth Goldstein, FF/Paramedic Adam Kangas, FF/Paramedic John Cox, and FF/EMT Jason Simpson; and certificates of merit to the Price Chopper Team and City of Poughkeepsie FF Mark Scianna.

Headquarters Area
On March 9th, 2014, at 3:52AM, Arlington personnel responded in the headquarters area of the District for a young woman in childbirth. On arrival, personnel faced significant ingress and egress challenges within the residence, before reaching the bathroom where they found a newly delivered very premature baby boy. Because of the significantly short gestation time, the baby boy was in critical condition and required immediate life saving intervention. Personnel divided into teams and one team immediately began CPR and resuscitative efforts on the baby boy while another team began taking care of the young mother. Personnel quickly transported the critical pair to Vassar Brothers Medical Center where the premature baby boy remains in the neonatal intensive care unit. According to staff, the baby boy is estimated at 25 weeks and is alive today because of the efforts and interventions of personnel on the scene.
The Arlington Fire District Board of Fire Commissioners and Chiefs Staff will present lifesaving awards to FF/Paramedic Christopher Mills, LT/EMT Michael Bohack, FF/Paramedic Justin Carlon, FF/EMT Christopher Saya, and FF/EMT Albert Schoessow.
